Here’s the practical mechanics of how it works:

The scheme is owned by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) and technically implemented by the Quality Council of India (QCI).
MSMEs register on the official portal at zed.msme.gov.in, with facilitation and information support also available via zedmsme.com.
Enterprises are assessed against parameters spanning quality management, process control, energy efficiency, waste management, HR development, and financial stability.
Based on performance, the enterprise is certified at Bronze, Silver, or Gold level.
Certification is not a one-time transaction — it’s designed as a continuous improvement journey, with each level pushing the business toward more mature systems.

Unlike product-specific marks (like BIS or FSSAI), ZED certifies the enterprise as a whole — its systems, processes, and sustainability practices — not a single product batch.
