Zed Certification

ZED Certification is a Government of India scheme (Ministry of MSME, implemented by Quality Council of India) that certifies MSMEs across three levels — Bronze, Silver, Gold — for quality and environmental performance. It’s largely subsidized, and as of July 2026, over 6.67 lakh MSMEs have already been certified.

How the System Works:

ZED Certification isn’t a single test you either pass or fail. It’s a graded, maturity-based assessment system built around two ideas:

• Zero Defect — producing goods and services right the first time, with minimal rejections and rework.
• Zero Effect — keeping the manufacturing process’s environmental footprint as low as possible.

Here’s the practical mechanics of how it works:

• The scheme is owned by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) and technically implemented by the Quality Council of India (QCI).
• MSMEs register on the official portal at zed.msme.gov.in, with facilitation and information support also available via zedmsme.com.
• Enterprises are assessed against parameters spanning quality management, process control, energy efficiency, waste management, HR development, and financial stability.
• Based on performance, the enterprise is certified at Bronze, Silver, or Gold level.
• Certification is not a one-time transaction — it’s designed as a continuous improvement journey, with each level pushing the business toward more mature systems.

Unlike product-specific marks (like BIS or FSSAI), ZED certifies the enterprise as a whole — its systems, processes, and sustainability practices — not a single product batch.
