Water Efficiency Labeling

Driving Progress Through New Standards and Emerging Services
Water Efficiency Labeling

The “Technical Regulation for Water Rationalization Tools” and the SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Program for faucets, showers, and toilets depending on their water efficiency (high or low) consumption rates have both been put into effect by the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO). At SASO Board of Directors Meeting No. 156 on September 16, 1437 H (June 21, 2016 A.D.), this regulation was approved.

SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Program

One of the most underrated and frequently taken-for-granted resources in the world is water. Some of it is wasted due to our own carelessness, and occasionally the tools, machinery, and equipment in our immediate environment are the ones that misuse it. We must constantly remember that conserving water not only helps to protect the environment but also lowers the amount of energy needed to process and carry it to homes, companies, farms, and communities, ultimately lowering pollution.

Overview of the SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Initiative

Water is more than a resource in Saudi Arabia’s parched landscapes; it is essential. Efficient water management is critical because of the nation’s limited natural water supplies and reliance on desalination. The Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) launched the SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Program, which is a strong framework designed to encourage water efficiency in a variety of industries. This program fits in with Saudi Arabia’s larger plan for sustainable development, which emphasizes water conservation as a top national priority.

Ratings of Efficiency

Each level in the efficiency ratings category corresponds to a distinct level of water consumption efficiency. Products with lower ratings use more water than those with higher ratings, which means that the former uses less. This approach encourages producers to innovate and enhance their goods in order to garner higher ratings and win over environmentally conscientious customers.

Product Types That the Program Covers

The SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Program covers a broad spectrum of items, guaranteeing thorough coverage and influence.

The SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Program’s goals

With strict guidelines and lucid labeling, the main goal of the SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Program is to promote a culture of water saving. With the launch of this initiative, SASO hopes to:

Encouraging Water Efficiency

Water efficiency is about making the most of every drop of water, not merely cutting back on usage. Manufacturers are encouraged by the program to create products that use water more effectively. Whether it’s a residential faucet, a commercial cooling system, or agricultural machinery, the objective is to maximize water use without sacrificing performance or usefulness.

Cutting Down on Water Waste

The program’s emphasis on reducing water waste is one of its key features. Items that are eligible for this program’s labeling must fulfill certain requirements that cut down on needless water use. This not only contributes to the preservation of the essential resource but also significantly lessens the negative environmental effects of excessive water use.

The Operation of the SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Initiative
The foundation of the SASO Water Efficiency Labeling Program is a uniform labeling scheme that gives customers lucid details about a product’s water efficiency.

An explanation of the labeling system

Every product covered by the program is given a label with its efficiency rating on it. The product usually has these labels prominently displayed, which makes it simple for customers to recognize water-efficient solutions. To help consumers make educated purchases, the labels frequently provide data on efficiency indicators and water consumption.

Appliances for the Home

Water usage from home appliances, such as dishwashers and washing machines, is substantial. Strict guidelines are part of the program to guarantee that these items use water effectively. These appliances’ labels assist buyers in selecting water- and energy-efficient models that enhance sustainability in general.

hygienic fixtures

Water efficiency may make a big difference in common utilities like toilets, showers, and sanitary fixtures. The program’s rules for these fixtures are made to lower water flow rates without compromising operation, which will eventually result in significant savings.

Industrial Tools

Water is frequently used extensively in industrial settings for tasks including production, washing, and cooling. By establishing guidelines that encourage the creation of water-efficient industrial machinery, the initiative aims to lessen the water footprint of the industrial sector.
